The Colombian project Arkangel AI has won the Colombia 2020 everis Award for its artificial intelligence software that allows the rapid and precise detection of pathologies such as Malaria, Covid-19 and other diseases of high prevalence in Latin America.
Laura Velázquez, President and co-founder of Arkangel AI, said that "56% of the deaths that occur in the world today are caused by diseases that we can cure, but are not being detected in time. Our software is 20 times faster, 10 times more scalable, 5 times cheaper, and has 95% accuracy. We are currently piloting in 30 hospitals in Colombia with a population of over 5 million people".
The everis Award encourages and supports innovative proposals with a high social impact and technological base within the following categories: new business models in the digital economy, biotechnology and health and industrial technologies.
This year, the Colombian call has received 103 projects, 22% of which are led by women. The winner receives specialised mentoring from i-deals (everis Group) and a place in the international final of the 2020 everis Awards. The international winner, which will be announced at an online and public event on 25 November, will receive 60,000 euros, as well as accompaniment and consultancy from i-deals, a company in the everis Group specialising in technological entrepreneurship.
"We make available to entrepreneurs all the capabilities we have at everis to support them. The global component is undoubtedly a great attraction and of great value, as it allows entrepreneurs to meet and interact with peers in Latin America and Europe", said Noemí Sanín, President of the global everis foundation.
